Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Nominate J.K. Rowling as one of the most powerful women in Britain - even if you live in the United States or outside of the UK.
Supply your name, email, and a description of why she should be on the list to nominate her.
If you don’t know what to write, here’s what we sent in:
J.K. Rowling has inspired a whole generation to read, increasing literacy among children, teens, and even adults. Her donations to numerous of impacting charities have helped people of all aspects of life, specifically single mothers, victims of domestic violence, and people suffering with Multiple sclerosis. Her new book, The Casual Vacancy, paints a harshly realistic picture of modern day Britain, describing the ever-so-prevalent social class struggles that Britons face everyday. It is one for the ages, just like the author herself.
In the interview, Jo was asked an interesting question: have her children read the book?
To hear the question, skip to 21:49.
Here’s the dialogue:
NPR: Have your kids read this?
J.K. Rowling: My eldest daughter has [read the book]… She’s 19… And I would not recommend it for a 7 and 9 year old, which is what my other two children are.
No, of course not. What does your eldest daughter think?
She had a curious reaction actually she came to me, and she said “I finished it.”
And I said “..Right.”
And she said, “I cried.”
And I said “Good [laughs] because… I don’t think I could…yeah… I would’ve been very surprised if you haven’t.”
And then she said, “It’s made me realize how much I don’t know.”
And I said, ”What do you mean??”
And she said… And then she talked about some of the characters in the book and um… we had actually a very interesting conversation because Jessica can remember our lives changing very dramatically but she wasn’t old enough when we left a life of real poverty to remember some of what I can remember. And so I suppose this book brought it home to her what kind of existence we could have had, actually.
But she remembers a little?
Oh yeah, yeah. She was 4 or 5 when our fortunes really changed. She can remember the flat we were living in when Harry Potter was published, and she can remember me getting the deal that meant we could buy our own house which looked impossible, at one point. I didn’t think we were going to own our own house maybe ever.

The Brazilian publishers of The Casual Vacancy are going all out to promote J.K. Rowling’s forthcoming novel for adults.
New Frontier Publishing (Nova Frontiera Editora in Portuguese) posted a few photos on their Facebook page as a marketing ploy to promote the book. Their Facebook page’s cover photo is a picture of J.K. Rowling and the book cover and they devoted three posts (including photos) to J.K. Rowling’s new book.
New Frontier will have a kiosk at the International Book Fair of São Paulo in Brazil (Book Biennial SP), where a huge mounting of J.K. Rowling and her new book awaits you. Shown above, their presentation even includes computers with information about the book.
You can view the pictures here, here, and here.
Clearly, one publisher is heavily marketing the highly-anticipated novel. Do you think they’re going a little too far? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below.
The Casual Vacancy will be released in Brazil on September 27.
I saw this on Facebook, at the page Albus Dumbledore can’t die as long as people still loyal to him, and I had to share.
Harry went to J.K. Rowling’s Deathly Hallows book signing, heavily disguised. He kept his emerald eyes, however. “So, are you a big fan, then?” Rowling asked him as she signed his copy, assuming he was just any old boy. “I’m a huge fan.” Harry said, staring fixedly at her. She looked up, and fell headlong into his eyes. He smiled, knowing that she knew who he really was, and left.
Because its real of us <3 ⚡
